Artist Statement - Dio Chavez
Comparison is a disease that I have fallen victim to. I see my peers excelling and creating things that I would only dream of; their skills are far beyond my own. I am unable to translate my ideas into tangible things. Every time I gain confidence in my art, I am promptly met with uncertainty: Is this good enough…Am I enough? This is the dilemma of an artist, coming to terms with creating something less than perfect.
“Creative Process” is the portrayal of the balance between feeling inadequate and finding confidence within ourselves as artists. Using Polaroids allows me to capture raw moments as they are uneditable and unable to be reproduced in their original form. Their permanence and limited attempts create a level of uncertainty that results in something unique to you.
