Artist Statement - Jesus Carreno
My body of work usually consists of personal ideas and feelings within my experiences. I combine complementary or analogous colors in my pieces to create an investment between the viewer and the piece. The key concepts from most of my pieces are to speak what I cannot say with words and to connect with others who might relate to my content. I do these mostly by symbolism and abstraction, which leads the viewer to have their own interpretation of the piece. My purpose from these pieces is to generate a way for me to express myself and share it with the world, also connecting with different cultural backgrounds, spiritual connections, and even social and political commentary, regardless of language. I like to tell stories, and I like to think that my art is a way to preserve my story while it can also preserve the stories that I have to tell, my experiences, and thoughts. My inspiration and work process consist of the outside world and my interactions with people or self-reflections. Some of the artists who inspired my style have been Louis Wain and David Lynch. My art has also been inspired by the animation style from the 80s and 90s, and cartoon comics.
